Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Fantasy Preview

Peter Siddle has been named in the Melbourne Renegades’ squad for their season opener against the Sydney Sixers. Cleared by Cricket Australia to play after being omitted from the second Test in Brisbane, the Victorian will provide a boost to the Renegades’ pace stocks. Coach Simon Helmot said the past 48 hours had provided a measure of Siddle’s character. “We’re disappointed for Pete being left out of the team, but within half an hour of him finding out that news, he was on the phone discussing plans and best ways for him to prepare to play for us. “It shows the type of person he is, that out of a disappointment he’s still looking to make a positive, and that positive will be in red colours.


Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell have also both been named; the latter arriving in Melbourne on Wednesday after a marathon 56-hour plane journey.

Andrew Fekete is part of the squad after being promoted to the list to replace the injured Jayde Herrick. Between Fekete, Fawad Ahmed and Nathan Rimmington, the Renegades have the three leading wicket takers in the Sheffield Shield so far this summer.


Moises Henriques will lead the side which features some last minute squad changes due to injury, withdrawals and players missing through national duty.

With five players on Aussie Test duties and injuries to Stephen O’Keefe and Trent Copeland, Luke Doran and Simon Keen have been called in to replace the injured players, while new recruit Riki Wessels will arrive over the weekend.

Big Bash 1st Match | Adelaide strikers vs Melbourne Stars

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA - 

Australia's Premier T20 competition opens in Adelaide on Thursday and while both sides will be hopeful of taking an early win, the game is all about the Stars - at least as far as the bookmakers are concerned. Cameron White's men are the pre-tournament favourites and having signed Kevin Pietersen ahead of the competition, many believe this is the year that they will finally claim their first title.


There are clearly some dangerous players in a Strikers side that contains Kieron Pollard and Craig Simmons - the latter making two consecutive tons for the Scorchers at Big Bash 3. Bowling is a concern however and without a strong squad, the Stars should begin their campaign with a comfortable victory.


The side will again be led by Johan Botha, who will be supported by new recruit, Brad Hodge who will be vice-captain in addition to his role as assistant coach.

“Having someone with the experience of Brad Hodge to support our captain Johan Botha is really going to add to our side and give our side a strong rudder to steer the ship,” said Adelaide Strikers coach, Darren Berry.

There will be high expectation on new batsman Craig Simmons and West Indies international, Kieron Pollard, who has travelled to Adelaide from South Africa where his impressive form led the Cape Cobras to victory in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.

“Adelaide crowds love Polly and he can’t wait to get back out onto Adelaide Oval. He has been in great form coming into the Big Bash and he will offer great support as a bowler and as a power-hitter through the middle order.”

The Adelaide Strikers have also included a number of local emerging players, including Travis Head and Alex Ross.

South Africa would like to claim hold on No.1 status, Indies will do better for a draw

West Indies and South Africa kick off a long sojourn with the first Test in Centurion on Wednesday. West Indies are in South Africa after a marathon six years and it is a crying shame that it has taken this long for the charismatic Caribbeans to visit the rainbow nation. The last International match the West Indies played was a poor apparition of the game. With all their troubles still lurking in the dressing room, they take on the undisputed champions of Test Cricket with the first Test starting in Centurion on December 17. It is amazing as well as depressing how the most dominant force in world cricket at one point could have regressed to such a nadir. The process of rebuilding began in what now seems like another lifetime and lingers on in their tour of South Africa amidst festering player-board disputes, which may have blown over for now. On the other hand, it is the beginning of an era in South African cricket on the captaincy front. Hashim Amla will lead South Africa for the first time in a Test at home come December 17. His first assignment as their Test skipper was a successful tour of Sri Lanka.

The touring party hasn’t had the luxury of acclimatizing as perhaps they would have desired. They played a rain affected practice match on a traditionally benign Benoni surface, in which they fared rather well, but it is too small a sample size to gauge form or ability. However, Marlon Samuels’ double hundred has auspicious portents; what will please them further was the performance of Devon Smith who was inducted as a late replacement for Chris Gayle. Smith was stomping in his 170s before retiring. But the rest of the batting line up plodded to create an impression. The absence of Darren Bravo leaves a gaping hole in a middle order that with the exception of Shivnarine Chanderpaul is volatile by nature.

The visitors pace attack led by Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor — one area in which they feel smug about challenging the might of the Proteas. Sheldon Cottrell may have booked himself a berth in the eleven with a five-wicket haul in the practice game. Being a left-armer, his inclusion will lend variety to their attack. With Shane Shillingford out, Suliman Benn offers them a spin bowling option. But they may be tempted to take on board a fourth seamer instead — the imposing Jason Holder. Their headache will be facing up to the formidable trio of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander. Considering their wobbly form against spin bowling, Imran Tahir’s exclusion is slightly surprising. However, their willingness to put in the hard yards with the bat will determine the course of the Test and the series.

South Africa are coming off a disappointing one-day series loss to Australia, but Test cricket is a different ball game. Test cricket at home is what they’d like for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With most bases covered, it is only the absence of Jean-Paul Duminy due to injury which leaves a spot vacant in the middle order. Stiaan Van Zyl would be the likely beneficiary, all set for debut. The absence of Tahir suggests that they might go into the first Test with a four pronged pace attack, which may be much desired in the Highveld. South Africa enter the series beginning in Centurion as overwhelming favourites. It is for the West Indies now to turn the tables on the hosts and have them hopping for cover.

Pakistan VS New Zealand 4th ODI | Fantasy Preview | 16th December 2014

Pakistan and New Zealand will clash for the fourth time of the ongoing five-match One-Day International (ODI) series at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The hosts are currently leading the series 2-1 and will look to seal it with one match to go. New Zealand on the other hand, will look to get their team combination right and win the game to keep the series alive.

The series has been quite fascinating so far. Especially the first two matches were very competitive. After losing the first match narrowly the Kiwis came back strongly with a clinical victory in the second ODI. But in the third ODI under the leadership of Shahid Afridi, Pakistan were all over New Zealand. They won the contest by a huge margin of 147 runs in a one-sided encounter. They would like to continue this momentum at Abu Dhabi as well. Pakistan are likely to field an unchanged side for this game.

For New Zealand, problems are plenty. As a skipper Kane Williamson has a tough luck so far in the series. The first thing he needs to do is to stop experimenting and play the best possible side for the match. They missed the left-arm spin of Daniel Vettori badly and it is expected that he will be back in the playing eleven at Abu Dhabi.

On a dry track at Abu Dhabi, the match will be another spin test for the New Zealand batting unit. In this situation senior players like Williamson and Ross Taylor need to bat more sensibly. The firepower in the middle order with the likes of Corey Anderson, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi is yet to fire in the series. They can justify their tag of match-winners, by performing well in a crunch game like this. New Zealand so far had a decent tour of United Arab Emirates (UAE) and they would like to continue their good work in the last phases of the tour as well.

Sri Lanka v England: Both side will look for experiment, England will try to salvage pride.


For Sri Lanka, the year 2014 has been a year of triumph. Apart from the odd India series, where they were forced to act as a proxy for West Indies, Angelo Mathews‘ team have had an excellent run so far. As expected, they have also clinched the ongoing seven-match ODI series against England with a game yet to be played, but keeping the upcoming World Cup in mind, both teams will have lots to play for in the final encounter on Tuesday.

The game also has another aspect. Sri Lankan legend, Mahela Jayawardene will play his last international match on home soil. The same might hold true for Jayawardene’s best mateKumar Sangakkara. Though it’s still not official, Sangakkara is considering retirement from 50-over format after next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. So on that note Tuesday’s match, which is technically a dead rubber, has an emotional angle added to it.

Heading towards World Cup, both Sri Lanka and England would like to try out different combinations to form the best possible side. So in a dead rubber like this, both captains would like to try their reserve players. For the hosts, players like , Dimuth Karunaratne, Dilruwan Perera, Lakshan Sandakan might get a chance to impress the selectors.

In the sixth ODI, Jayawardene came to open the innings. The move was not a successful one, but team management might think of giving it another try. In the bowling department, Sri Lanka started with two spinners in that game. Mathews would be tempted to do more such experiments on Tuesday.

For England, it would be a more serious business. Their familiar weaknesses in 50-over format were once again exposed in the series. Besides,their best player in this format, Eion Morgan is going through a lean patch with bat. Alastair Cook has looked like a fish out of water both as a skipper and as a batsman in ODIs. He will get one more opportunity in this series to sort the mess out.

At least Cook can certainly look upon the positives like James Taylor, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, andChris Woakes, all of whom have performed decently on this tour. Also he should give reserve members of squad to prove their worth. Players such as Harry Gurney, Ben Stokes and Alex Hales might find place in the playing eleven in the last ODI at Colombo.

Sri Lanka: With four half-centuries and 421 runs in six innings,Kumar Sangakkara and Dilshan has been the pick of the Sri Lankan top-order this series. If they don't get him early on, it could be a long day for England's bowlers.

Skipper Angelo Mathews has weighed in with quick runs and timely wickets, too. If a match-winning cameo is needed he's just the man to deliver.

England: With the chorus of criticism mounting once again, the pressure will be on Alastair Cook to deliver.

Joe Root and Ali has looked in good order this series without yet producing a match-winning innings. He's due a big score.

The pick of the bowlers last time out was Chris Jordan. A repeat would help England to an unlikely win and boost the Sussex all-rounder's World Cup credentials.

New Zealand fancy chances, Pakistan will look forward for consistency


Both Pakistan and New Zealand will be looking to take lead in the series when they go head to head in the third one-day international series in Sharjah on Sunday.

The five-match series is currently standing at 1-1. Pakistan won the opening game in Dubai narrowly by three wickets before the visitors bounced back to register four-wicket win in next game in Sharjah.

Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has been ruled out of the remainder of series because of hamstring injury and Shahid Afridi will take reins of the team in his absence.

Inconsistency in batting-line’s performance continued to haunt Pakistan in second ODI. After blub in opening game, Mohammad Hafeez top-scored with 76 but Ahmed Shehzad, Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq all failed to reach double digits. Overall, Pakistan’s six batsmen were bowled out on short-pitched deliveries. This was only the fourth occasion country’s ODI history that all of their 10 batsmen were dismissed by seamers in a home series.

Twice in this tour, New Zealand have staged bounce back in Sharjah after going 0-1 down. They had also won the third and final Test comprehensively an innings and 80 runs at the same venue and the hosts will have to come up with a different strategy to prevent New Zealand from completing hat-trick of victories here.

Misbah’s exclusion due to injury has paved way for wicketkeeper-batman Umar Akmal to feature the team for the first time in this series. However, due to limited-options available, no major changes are expected in the batting-line otherwise despite unconvincing performances.

There are injury news from pace department as well. Umar Gul and Bilawal Bhatti have both been ruled out of the remainder of series because of ankle and hand injuries respectively. Fast bowler Anwar Ali and leg-spinner Yasir Shah, the leading wicket-taker in Test series, have been named their replacements.

However, yet Pakistan’s pace battery looks fully-charged both Mohammad irfan and Wahab Riaz have been bowling well. Sohail Tanvir bowled economical but wicketless six overs while replacing underperforming Gul in second game and is expected to retain his place in Sunday clash which means it will be all left-arm pace attack – yet again.

New Zealand are unlikely to tinker with their combination that won second game.

Sri Lanka v England: Alastair Cook to returns, Lanka aim to claim series



Two down with three to play, it's win or bust for England against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele Stadium on Wednesday.

If not quite a stroll, Sri Lanka's win in Colombo on Sunday was comfortable enough, and skipper Angelo Mathews will be hoping for a repeat performance to seal the seven-match series.

England welcome back Alastair Cook after his one-match ban.

With the top-order quartet of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews all in good touch, they'll expect to take a 4-1 series lead in Kandy.

England's well-documented woes against spin have been exploited by Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis and the aforementioned Dilshan. The visitors can expect another trial by spin on Wednesday.

If everything looks relatively rosy in the Sri Lankan garden, there is much to ponder for England.

After serving a one-match ban for a slow over-rate, Alastair Cook is expected to take the captaincy reins at Pallekele. James Taylor's impressive 90 and Eoin Morgan's partial return to form in Colombo mean it's Alex Hales who'll likely be the batting fall guy.

Despite some bright individual efforts, England have failed to find consistency. There's a decent performance in this side, whether we'll see it in Kandy remains doubtful. The World Cup formula still seems a long way off for Alastair Cook's men.

India vs Australia 2014: First Test Fantasy Preview | 9th December 2014

Adelaide: The usually aggressive build-up has turned poignant owing to Phillip Hughes' tragic death but the on-field face-off is unlikely to be anything less than high-voltage when India and Australia compete in the opening cricket Test of a four-match series, starting here on Tuesday.

More than two weeks after landing here, India will finally get down to serious competition with Virat Kohli leading the side in place of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is still recovering from a hairline fracture in his right thumb.

Indians are also dealing with uncertainty surrounding medium-pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar even as Australian skipper Michael Clarke was declared fit for the game.

The visitors will be hoping to reverse their last Test series' result in this country, when under Dhoni they had lost 4-0 in 2011-12. However, that thought will not be at the forefront when the match begins on Tuesday.

For the visitors, this has been a long tour already, waiting two weeks for some high-voltage cricket to get underway.

They started off with a practice game at the Glenelg Oval, waited patiently as Australia grieved, practiced some more and then got into Test mode with another tour-game again in suburban Adelaide.

While their colleague's demise ought to have affected them, the Indian team hasn't made their emotions too visible, keeping a game-face at all times.

And for good reason, because India's Test fortunes have been worrisome off late. The team is currently languishing at sixth in the ICC Test rankings and this is a proper reflection of their results in the last 12 months in this longest format.

They beat West Indies at home in autumn of 2013, but after that, have lost 1-0 in South Africa and New Zealand.

Thereafter, this past summer, they lost 3-1 in England.

For the first time in living memory, India haven't played a home Test in a calendar year. While this factor must be taken into consideration, their slow progress overseas cannot be denied. For a young team, this year has been about taking small steps and gaining experience.

On each of the last three tours, the touring side was mostly unfamiliar with playing conditions in Africa, New Zealand and England, as only a handful squad members had played Test cricket in these countries previously.

This Australian tour is quite different in that respect.


With Kumar a doubt, Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron and Mohammad Shami will be the first-choice combination. Among the spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin will be prime contenders, and it is highly unlikely that leg-spinner Karn Sharma will be handed a Test debut in the lone spinner role.

The Adelaide Oval wicket is a drop-in pitch and while it is expected to have nice bounce and carry throughout, it is not expected to deteriorate too much as the Test goes on. It has been an unusual build-up to a highly anticipated series.

Pakistan will look to extend dominance against New Zealand



After draws in both Test and T20I series, Pakistan and New Zealand head into a five-ODI series with the first game commencing at Dubai on Monday. Bad news greets Pakistan ahead of the day-nighter as Mohammad Hafeez has been suspended from bowling in international cricket after the International Cricket Council confirmed his bowling action to be illegal on Sunday.


The 34-year-old Hafeez, more known for his batting exploits but pretty effective with the ball, was reported during the first Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi last week. In comparison, the New Zealand camp is in a good mood after reports that star allrounder Corey Anderson, who didn't play the second and last T20 on account of a head blow inflicted by a bouncer from Mohammad Irfan in the previous game, is set to return.


Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium


With Hafeez banned from bowling, Pakistan are one option short in that department, and that disrupts the balance of the team. Pakistan are forced to bring in left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar in place of a batsman and that's likely to be Asad Shafiq. However, there is good news for Pakistan regarding one of its top batsmen Ahmed Shehzad who has recovered from a minor scull fracture caused by an Anderson bouncer in the first Test at Abu Dhabi.


New Zealand have the opportunity to try out a few players. Martin Guptill is being monitored for a hamstring niggle and in case he doesn't play Dean Brownlie will take his place.

Srilanka vs England 4th ODI match preview

Sri Lanka’s one-day international series at home to England moves to Colombo for the fourth game as both prepare for the Cricket World Cup.

 The visitors will likely be full of confidence after their win in the third ODI and will be determined to put a run together on Sri Lankan soil.

 he two sides come into this game with the series interestingly poised at 2-1 to Sri Lanka, but with England having taken their first victory last time out.

 Batting first, the hosts made 242-8 from 35 overs in a rain-hit game, led by 63 from Kumar Sangakkara and 62 not out from Lahiru Thirimanne.

 Chris Woakes led the way for England’s bowlers with 3-41, while Chris Jordan chipped in with two.

 In reply, the away side stumbled, but they were steadied by 58 from Moeen Ali, 55 not out from Jos Buttler and an unbeaten 48 from Joe Root.

 They took victory, thanks to the Duckworth-Lewis method by five wickets as they reached their revised target of 236 with eight balls to spare.

 In the aftermath of that game, England captain Alastair Cook will be banned because of his side’s slow over-rate and replaced as leader by Eoin Morgan.

 It may create some uncertainty for the visitors, but with this victory under their belts, they will be hopeful of more.

Opening for the first time in a T20 international,Sarfraz Ahmed made a breezy unbeaten 76 to steer Pakistan to a seven-wicket win over New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. Sarfraz put on 51 with Awais Zia for the first wicket, and an unbroken 43 with Umar Akmal for the fourth wicket, to take Pakistan past their target of 136 with five balls remaining, Akmal ending the contest with a straight six off James Neesham.



With back to back T20 match, fitness may be questioned and both team will look to rest few players.

Preview: Kiwi hungry for T20 success, will look for consistency.

Dubai, 1st T20, 04th December' 2014.



Arch rivals face each other after Kiwis registered handsome victory in test match. It has been a tough time to play cricket after Phillip Hughes‘ demise, but New Zealand came up with an inspiring performance by the Kiwis in the third Test at Sharjah where they clobbered Pakistan by aninnings and 80 runs. After equalling the Test series 1-1, it will be interesting to see how both teams get into the T20 format.
New Zealand have rested their mainstay, McCullum and Southee but they will be boosted by presence of limited over specialists. However, pakistan have excellent match winner in their own like
Afridi, Hafeez and Gul.



Pakistan will be lead by Shahid Afridi in the two T20I matches. Pakistan last played a lone T20I against Australia at Dubai in which they only managed to scramble 96 for the loss of nine wickets batting first. In the end they were defeated by six wickets. Pakistan will see return of Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz in the team. Gul is making a comeback to Paksitan ODI and T20I team after he last played in the ICC World Twenty20 earlier this year. Ahmed Shehzad who hit on the head in the the second Test by Corey Anderson is included in the squad. They have also included opener Awais Zia who featured in the lone T20I against Australia but failed to impress.
Pakistan have only won two of the five T20Is they have played this year while New Zealand have won five out of the eight matches they played.


Both team start favorite, and it is really very difficult to predict the winner. Expect to be high scoring match and take batsman and all rounders.

Preview: Lions aim to maintain clean sheet against English

The Lankans have recovered well from what was a disastrous tour in India down Under to lead the 7 match series by 2-0. However, the visitors will look to show their mettle and emerge victorious in the third match to be played at Hambantota.

Leading run getter of series, Jayawardene is set to miss the match after opting for personal reasons. The veteran batsman had played an important role in his team’s victories in the previous games, scoring a half-century in each of the innings. Ashan Priyanjan has been ushered in as the replacement for Jayawardene in the third ODI. The duo of Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis will look forward to a track that has generally been supportive to spinners.


For England, the most disappointing part of the tour so far has been the lack of consistency shown by the bowling department, reflecting in the way the hosts have milked them for runs.
In the batting department, Moeen Ali failed to recreate the magic of the first ODI, in which he scored a valuable 119, in the second game. Ali however, would want to put the memory of getting dismissed on five in the second encounter aside, and look to get back to his run-scoring ways in the third game. Ravi Bopara, who has been England’s leading man with the bat so far in the series, will look to play the core of the middle-order, though he will aim to not allow his efforts to go in vain.
