Preview:
Lions aim to maintain clean sheet against English
The Lankans have recovered well from what
was a disastrous tour in India down Under to lead the 7 match series by 2-0.
However, the visitors will look to show their mettle and
emerge victorious in the third match to be played at Hambantota.
Leading run
getter of series, Jayawardene is set to miss the match after opting for
personal reasons. The veteran batsman had played an important role
in his team’s victories in the previous games, scoring a half-century in each
of the innings. Ashan Priyanjan has been ushered in as the replacement for
Jayawardene in the third ODI. The
duo of Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis will look forward to a track that has
generally been supportive to spinners.
For England, the
most disappointing part of the tour so far has been the lack of consistency
shown by the bowling department, reflecting in the way the hosts have milked
them for runs.
In the batting
department, Moeen Ali failed to recreate the magic of the first
ODI, in which he scored a valuable 119, in the second game.
Ali however, would want to put the
memory of getting dismissed on five in the second encounter aside, and
look to get back to his run-scoring ways in the third game. Ravi Bopara, who has been
England’s leading man with the bat so far in the series, will look to play the
core of the middle-order, though he will aim to not allow his efforts to go in
vain.
